Photography Tips

This month we're launching our much sought after training programme. We've put loads of advice in our new training document including some examples of using aperture, shutter speed and ISO together. Up till now we've guarded it with our lives, well it's now time to share it and we hope you find it useful and feel free to pass it on (download it here) it's really useful for people learning how to use their SLR's, let us know what you think.

You may have noticed we've been announcing lots of changes at our
studio (our new website, portfolio packages and new studio layout) so now it's the turn of this newsletter. We've listened to you and made it much easier to read and with a much more varied content. We hope you enjoy it.

Have a fantastic April

What's on

Galleries, exhibitions and new stuff.

National Portrait Gallery – Photography Collection
The first photographic exhibition that took place at the National Portrait Gallery was a Cecil Beaton retrospective in 1968. Since then, the gallery has presented a regularly- changing programme of fascinating shows, with subjects ranging from Captain Scott's last
expedition to Frida Kahlo portraits. Other outstanding displays have included the Royal Ballet's 75th Anniversary retrospective and a show dedicated to the world's most photographed people.

Redferns Music Picture Gallery
Here's your chance to see work by the greatest music photographers in the world. From lifting the lid on the inside dealings of Andy Warhol's Factory to getting up close to  jazz heroes, from posturing rock gods to punk explained in pictures, Redferns gives you backstage access to some of most notorious musicians that ever lived.

Host Gallery
A relative newcomer to the photographic scene, Host Gallery is a joint venture between top  independent picture agency, Panos Pictures and photography magazine, foto8. It specialises in compelling photojournalism exhibitions that are both engaging and exciting. Past subjects  have included the shocking truth behind the diamond trade and the dark side of the New York crime scene.

Proud Camden
A bar, live music venue and exhibition space all rolled into one, Proud Camden is where hip 20-somethings and rock gods in the making come to play. The temporary exhibitions usually focus on portraits of rock icons, or photos taken by celebrities when they're off duty. Seriously cool.

Hamiltons Gallery
Established in 1977, Hamiltons in Mayfair showcases the best modern masters as well as up-and-coming photographers. Previous exhibitions, by artists such as Horst P Horst, Irving Penn and Tomio Seike, demonstrate diversity of modern photography.

The Photographers' Gallery
Britain's first independent photography gallery, The Photographers' Gallery always packs a punch. Previous exhibitors include Juergen Teller, Martin Parr and Faye Goodwin to name but a few. It also hosts the annual Photography Prize, one of the most coveted photography awards in the art world.

Our Mission...

Studio hire

We aim to make our studio the most creative and interesting studio in London. Since we've redesigned the space we're getting lots of positive feedback. It's even more spacious now, and the make up room has a had a cheeky little improvement. We love working here and we know you will too.

Also don't forget we now have a large green screen for you to use when you book the studio - free of course!

East London film festival...
23rd - 30th April 2009

Okay, we're pretty excited about the East End Film Festival that starts very soon. It showcases hot new talent and homegrown films alongside larger independent releases and special events, informing and inspiring a new generation of filmmakers and audiences from across London and beyond, and raising the profile of this vibrant and diverse area - London’s East End. If you want to find out more check out the details here.

We've now put together a full training course that can be adapted to suit each learner. So you only ever learn what's of interest to you.

You can even get vouchers now to pass on as gifts. At only £35 per one hour session they're proving really popular.

London Photographic Association (LPA)
We're pleased to announce that we've just joined the LPA.

This gives us the opportunity to meet with other photographers, exhibit and find out what's happening in the world of photography. We're really excited about this, and we're looking forward to getting involved.

Our plan is to get 'out there' and network with as many people as possible so if you you know of any events please let us know. We promise to be on best behaviour!
